How do you hang your lights if you can't hang them from the ceiling?
Hello. I'm looking at a couple options of hanging a light. I have cathedral ceilings where the tank is, so I can't hang it from the ceiling. How do you all hang your lights if you can't hang them from the ceiling? Any pictures? I have a rimless tank, so I can't use a standard hood. Tank is 31.5 " wide, so I can't use a standard light with legs either.
Thanks! Pam |

I have a canopy myself, but Im thinking if your tank is close to a wall, maybe you can mount an extension brace of sorts to the wall and hang it from that.

It is close to a wall (it's 3" from the wall right now, and I may move it a couple inches further from the wall). I was looking at attaching brackets to the wall, and hanging the lights from the brackets. I just don't know if there's a better alternative.
Thanks, Pam. |

i have my 2 250w Mh retro's attached to a metal closet shelf that i got from Lows. it's nice. its made from wire or small diameter round bar. it has a rubbery coating that is white. it is open on the top. so there is good ventilation. then I have a 3 sided oak canopy that i made.It slides on and off very easy. i am very happy with it.

Aqua Medic AquaWall
The Aqua Medic AquaWall might work: http://www.aquaristikshop.com/e_Prod...ing-system.htm. I’d call Aqua Medic (877.208.2633) to see where it is available.

Because I have a two story foyer where my tank is located, I had to hang my fixture from the wall. I bought a couple of plant hangers at Lowes and mounted on the studs behind the tank. It works perfectly. Just measure from the wall to the center of the tank for the proper length brackets. They had all styles from 7" to 15".

Re: Aqua Medic AquaWall
Thanks PJF
I also found these two options. The first picture is made by Elos. The light I'll be using is only 24" and my tank is 31" which means that I'd see the poles through the back of the tank, which I don't think I'd want. The second picture is a set of brackets from Geismann. Not sure if they'd look awkward in on my wall though. Elos Giesmann Brackets Quote:

The Elos system looks nice. That may be your best alternative. Wall-mounting is not as easy as it seems. I would not be so concerned about seeing the poles through the tank. Your live rock and overflow will probably hide the poles.
Wall brackets require that they be securely screwed into the wooden wall studs. If the studs are not at the precise locations where you want to mount the brackets, then you will need to purchase a board. The brackets will be screwed to the board and the board will be screwed to the studs. A hardware store will be able to help you with "stud finders," screws and drills. I've had to use such a board to mount my filtration system on the wall. It took more time than mounting my lights to my vaulted ceiling. Luckily my aquarium was near the low end of the ceiling. Thanks PJF. Thanks for the input on mounting it to the wall. I think I may just go with the Elos. I have the Elos tank, and am looking at that same light fixture...so maybe I should just go Elos all the way.
Have a good one! Pam Quote:
