Vitamins???

Is supplementing with vitamins really that beneificial? Or is it a marketing scheme? Are there any dangers/risks involved like throwing off the naturual chemistry of the tank?

Don't add anything to your tank that you don't test for! What product are you referring to, specifically?

No product specifically. I was at the store and noticed a few different vitamin supplements claiming to enhance the colors and growth of corals. I don't remember any specific brand names, but it was more of a general question. Personally, I am skeptical of adding too much to the water.

Some additives have been tried and proven, while others are nothing more than sales gimmicks; that's why I was asking what you were referring to specifically.

You can find alot of information on additives, etc. in the Reef Chemistry forum.

I would leave all the trace/essential elements to your water changes. The salt mix will have all you need. There are products like Prodibio, but it's for advanced SPS users.

For soft corals, would you recommend any type of supplement other then idodine and the Kent Marine Nano Reef A&B (and I feed them Marine Snow)?

I agree with drommereef, you should get all you need from a water change. Alot of people that do not do water changes will add things like Essential Elements, etc. to there tank to compensate for skimming and carbon use.

Well add iodine if you test for it and need it.

The only things I add that I don't or can't test for are Vita Chem and Selcon. They just seem to work for me. Sometimes I add straight to the tank while my normal addition of these is soaked into food.
