giesemann lights are 'out of date' right?
I mean, I don't think they have the 'new' reflectors in terms of individualized T5 parabolics and hqi right? Also, I don't think they're really meant for the US either right? Large powersupplies etc?

i run a 72" giesemann fixture over my 180g and am pretty satisfied with it.
my lights are mh only with no t5's so no opinion on the individual t5 parabolics... the reflectors of the mh's are interesting as they have very little 'horizontal' scatter...for a lack of a better word. it seems to focus the light more vertically than my hamilton reefstar (which seems to have a lot of horizontal light spread). this is not a necessarily a bad thing if this is your goal...but for my 180g and its requirements, i would not want a reefstar on it. i also have a pfo refector and it seems to be the best (and is rated to be one of the best according to sanjay along with the ro III) at giving good focus and good reflectivity. so, why didnt i go with all pfo's? aesthetics. the giesemann have a gorgeous appearance and this is important because the tank is an open top and makes the light visible. 3 or 4 pfo reflectors, to me, are not clean looking. thus, going with the giesemann. what i 'might' do in the future upgrade of my tank is to build a wood frame to hide the lights if i go with individual pfo's. conclusion: i would get giesemann again as their quality and appearance are second to none. i would not get it again as i do not have the option of sticking another light on there if i wanted more light!

Thanks for chiming in! Appearances are important to me too because I also am going open top as well. The fixture that I'm looking at is the Infinity line. I'm a little bit worried about powersupplies and or ballasts of the giesmann if they are not 'fit' for US use. What are your opinions on that? I would like to keep the surrounding area neat too so a HUGE powersupply isn't the best thing for me. Are ballasts electronic?

everything on my giesemann has been great with US electrical parameters. the ballasts are magnetic, and on my fixture, located inside the light fixture itself. it definitely cleans up any wiring clutter. the down points are that it makes the fixture weigh a ton (hard to install a 100pound light with two wires) and it is hard to change the ballasts if they ever need them to be.
