Can I get away without using a support brace on a 150?
I'm building a stand for my new 150 XH (48" X 24" X 30"). If I use a couple of 2x6 glued together as my cross beams, can I get away with not putting in a vertical center support?

Why not add it for "security"? Are there plumbing lines, etc in the way?

I wouldn't use glued 2x6's, but I would screw them together for added strength. If you wanted to go nuts, you could put epoxy between them. But I calculated on an 8' tank, that two 2x6's in the front and back of the tank would only deflect about 0.2" with a 3000lb load. (That's assuming point supports on the ends.) I'd put a support in the back. It can't hurt to have extra support. But it's not needed in the front on a 6' tank, IF the stand is designed properly. I know others have gone braceless in the front, too, for better sump access.

I don't have to even go 6', just 4'. I figured it wouldn't be a proble, but I wanted to be sure.
