What skimmer for a 156?
I have already searched many times and its overwhelming.
What would be a good skimmer for a heavily stocked 156? Internal or external? Pros and cons? What you pick if it was for your tank and why? |

It depends on area you have to put it in, money you want ot spend and aquarium inhaitant load.
That being said, if money does not mater: ATI bubblemaster 250 looks nice, but is $750 For a more frugal skimmer purchase: the aquaeurousa classic 400 from reefnut.com for about $280 shipped is quite nice. This is a BIG unit, 10 inch diameter, 3 pump beast so make sure you can fit it. |

I currently have a stock ASM G3.
Do you think the G3 will be enough for the 156? |

A lot of people seem hot on the mesh wheel craze right now. If you are one, then Bubble Master looks like a good choice. They are coming out with an external recirculationg model soon.
If you prefer the needle wheel, the EuroReef RC180 is a great skimmer. I like mine anyways. It is so superior to the ASM I upgraded from that I am wondering why I waited so long. |

I went with the G4X on my 156. Almost went with the G5 but once the G4 came home it barely fit into my sump (didn't realize how big it was). I think price and word of mouth was the reason for my choice. Now that it is installed and running great I am very happy.

For your size setup, I would ditto what TwistedTiger suggested for $650, but you didn't mention a budget. As for the new ATi Bubblemaster, they are currently non-recirculating only and the right model for your setup is the BM200 for $529. If you decide on either one, my local dealer is offering RC members FREE s/h/i through the end of the month.
Of course, most of us will be suggesting what we have experience with using that has worked well for us. A lot of us have very limited experience using any other skimmers. Just food for thought on what's behind the recommendations. |
