t5ho or PC???
Trying to decide how to light my new 50G... I have a 250w se mh with a 10k xm... It is a little yellowish so I wanted to add some sort of actinic supplementation.. I have a bunch of different retros lying around here and can't decide which way to go..
On hand I have a 2x55w ahsupply bright kit, 2x96w ahsupply bright kit and a 2x80 t5ho sunlight supply reflector and workhorse ballast..I was th inking about ctting down my 2 5 reflectors to make 4x39w 0 The tank is a standard 50.. Any and all info would be much appreciated.. Thanks Doug |

T5HO > PC
I’m not sure if electrical efficiency is your prime consideration but T5HO lamps with reflectors will direct more light into your tank with less electricity than PC lamps.
• T5HO 39W lamps produce 90 lumens per watt (http://www.lrc.rpi.edu/programs/nlpi.../lat5/pc1a.asp) • PC (HW-CFL) lamps typically produce 50-70 lumens per watt (http://www.lrc.rpi.edu/programs/nlpi...L-efficacy.asp) With individual parabolic reflectors, a T5 lamp can triple the light it delivers into your tank. A PC lamp cannot be fitted with individual reflectors for each of its twin tubes. The twin tubes absorb a significant portion of each other’s light. |

PC are pretty weak for actinics IMO. I'd go with the T-5's if you already have them. I'm in the process of swicthing my PC for some VHO's.

T5 for sure.
To bad you are not debating T5 or MH, then you could have a real fun thread...
