King Krab!
i have a rubbermaid tub curing some rock right now and last night i saw a crab, its back is 2 inches across, huge, with its 1/2 inch buddy hanging out right next to him.
sooo i take the rock out (one 18 pound piece). fill another rubbermaid tub with fresh water and dip. the little one came out after 10 minutes. the big one is dug in deep, very porous/cavernous piece of rock. how long do i let it sit? been soaking in fresh water for two hours now...no sign of king krab. |

i would just put the rock back in the tank.. there is a good chance he died in there and wont be coming out... if he does come out he will be in the tank and the worst thing that could happen is you spot him... net him and kill him or keep him

in the future if you do a dip in salt water measuring 1.040 for about ten minutes unwanted critters will flee the rock, and you won't kill any of the helpful bacteria.

In the future, instead of freshwater dipping for so long and possibly hurting other life on the rock, simply put the rock on a 5 gallon bucket of tank water, with the rock on top out of the water. He should jump out into the water before an hour and it most likely wont hurt anything in the process.

another targeted method of driving pests out of LR is to pour regular seltzer water into the hole(s) the critter is hiding in. the seltzer drives them right out, and this way you're not stressing all the other life on the rock. yowzaa, that is King Krab!

That is one nasty looking King Krab for sure. He is huge and looks like he was ready to eat some unexpecting fishes. The seltzer water trick worked for me. I was at my LFS the other day and he got a couple BIG acro colonies in a trade from a local. One had 8 emerald crab look a likes. One filled his palm completely. I will see if he can email the pic to me and post it here.

shoulda posted first to see what to do...seltzer would have been so much easier. could dipped him in jacked up salt water. even the popular hang the rock over the bucket trick woulda been easier. i bet he would of fallen for the banana in the tail pipe trick too.
so how bad did i screw up my rock...its a prized piece from some island in the south pacific. had no idea he was one of dem Limited Edition Krabs...dang.
