55G Tank Flow Question

Hello,
We started with a fish only tank but have since been adding soft corals so i am wondering what size of power head you reccomend.

here is a low down of what we have:
Green Star polyps
Christmas Tree Worms
Leather Toadstool
Discosoma Mushroom
Rhodactis Mushroom
Pipe Organ
Polyps
Bubble Tip Anemone

The Tank is a standard 55G with a Maxi-Jet 900 power head along with the pump.

(Fish: Yellow Tang, Ocellaris Clown, Antheis, Yellow head sleeper goby and Pseudochromis)

Cheers!

Well, I have a 40g mixed reef with very similar corals as you and have 30x turnover in my tank. I use two Nanostream 6025 for flow. I would at least have 20x preferably more, imo. I prefer the prop-style powerheads for the random indirect flow they produce.

agreeded. if you take the total amount of GPH and divide it by the gallons in the tank, you get your turnover rate. so 2200gph total would be 40x turnover in your 55g. so you could do two MJ1200's, or two 6045 nano streams...

Maxijet1200's are 295 gph unless modded. Tunze 6045's are 1189 gph I believe. Huge difference.

I just ordered a koralia 2 (600gph) It attaches to the glass with a magnet and suction cup and also is the prop type power head. I have heard nothing but good things about them. You could get two Koralia 2's or 3's.
