Tunze nanostream question

I just got 2 new Tunze nanostream 6045 powerheads. I also bought an Ocean Pulse Duo wavemaker which alternates the powerheads at various intervals.
My concern is when each pump turns on it makes a ratcheting sound (almost like gears grinding). It only happens for about a second or less. Is this normal?

it is normal, however youll burn out your pumps. they need at least 15 minutes of off time before turning back on, so turning them on and off alot will burn out the motor

Yeah the nanostreams are not wake-maker friendly...

Using them on a wavemaker will void the warranty

While I don't recommand putting them on and off Roger at Tunze did say they will honor the warranty if each on period is at least a continuous 15 minutes. This is true for other brand AC prop pumps such as the Hydor Koralias.

The noise at the startup is pump trying to correct itself. AC prop pumps start in reverse most of the time, the 6045 has a built-in stopper to correct the rotation.
