Micron rated filtration and skimmers
Just wondering if using a 100 or 50 micron filter bag on the overflow water, before it reaches the skimmer, will reduce skimmate. IOW, is 100 or 50 micron filtration enough to filter out any of the products that the skimmer removes from the water?

Cant answer your question specifically, I was/am still having issues with my skimmer. One of the earlier suggestions was to remove the filter sock(100micron) before the skimmer. I did and it has had no impact in skimmer performance. I do have particles floating in the tank now though. Yuck.
Keep in mind, my skimmer is not producing as it should, so there my be negative side effects to a "properly" working skimmer.

I wasnt having any issues with the skimmer, just wondered about the question so figured I'd ask. But if it does lessen skimmer production, what's the downside if any? Should just mean that you were getting some of the proteins and other substances out by another means. As long as the filter bags get changed frequently enough, it shouldnt be a problem I wouldnt think. Or maybe I'm missing something?
Thanks |
