a better mousetrap?

I had a stupid topoff accident which gave me a new idea for an acclimation tank...

I shoved the outflow of my [lowlying] ro/di reservoir into my [higher] sump during set-up...all the way into the water. Funny thing, my salinity wouldn't rise. I kept adding salt. It wouldn't rise...until I tested the ro/di water and discovered it now matched the tank.

Basically every time the float switch sensed water need, it signaled the topoff pump, and every time the topoff had pumped the needed water into the top tank, it backsiphoned back into the ro/di tank, continually mixing it in small cycles the size of the float switch sensitivity gap.

If one had a [higher] small tank, with new fish and its water, with a float switch to operate a pump; and a [lower] 2x supply of tank water with a pump and small hose [water taken from, not part of the tank] running up to the acclimation tank, and just let it run---pretty soon the water would be the same, top and bottom, no stress, no dripping, no fuss, and the fish doesn't get water dropped on his head in a bag. Hmmmn.

Should be ok if you trust the source of the water / fish. i.e., no copper, no medications. With this setup, you would be mixing this foreign water in with your tank.

Borrow tank water, but do not connect to your tank.
