Electric eel powering your Halides?
Well from his greatness Waterkeeper I had an idea What if instead of having chaeto in the fudge you had lets say 2-25kv electric eels powering 2-400 watts of metal halides (1-400watter each)? Has anyone in this forum tried this ? I would like some feedback.

Hey papagimp I would be in front page of RC and thanked everyday from all the fellow reefers when my project and research is complete. The name 0Agios will be written in the history books of reefing and I will have my own article in RC magazine. The # 1 magazine in reefing will bow to my inventions.

Did you add more clips to your belt for more beers?
Harness the electricity and always ensure your gloves don't leak before you grab a hot 35kV line whil suspended 100 feet in the air with transformers all around you... my god man. |

Aside from needing a pretty beefy step-down transformer, you have to figure that two 400W MH lamps need to draw about 8 amps of current continously. I'm no specialist on eels, but I'm guessing that they wouldn't supply nearly that much. JMO.

How about that. My 200th post and it's about freshwater critters being used to illuminate a marine tank.

Is 'drawing' amperage really accurate. That term is bounced around alot...pulling, drawing, etc. Current 'flow' etc..

Can you describe on a molecular level how they electrons react when a potential difference exists across the medium in which they are a part of?

You'd have better luck with using some type of solar energy and battery's to power your MH's would be a more efficient way, because you can have the MH's on during the day when the suns out, makes more sense.

eels..
the only drawback to using electric eels, is somebody has to sit there and poke them with a stick everytime the lights go out.

You'd have to make sure you got AC and not DC eels...
