green hair algae in fuge
I'm guessing that is what it is. It is very fine, green and hair like. It is starting to take hold in my fuge. Does it do anything for nutrient removal? Will it take over too much for what I call a display fuge?

good question. i know green hair algae thrives on nitrates and phosphates, so it would seem that it's good to have in a fuge....but it also spread like wildfire...so it might be hard to contain it.
anyone else have feedback on this? i have a feeling i'll be wondering this myself and some point. |

I know of a few people who actually Encourage and CUTIVATE HAir Algae in their fuges, and says that it is one of the Best MACRO Algae's out there
Besides, being unsightly, and taking over everything in the display tank, people test, and say that their PO, and NI, NA are 0, well thats the HA at work, So a few people take advantage of this, and keep it in a controlled environment, making sure it doesn't Get into the Display. Through, Fuge in Sump, not allowing too many algae eaters to eat it, and stir up Spores, releasing them into the main tank. And keeping a HA clean up crew in ur Main tank, just in case. The Hair Algae Quantity below will simply outcompete any in UR main tank, they are using the same nutrients. Develope a way to tame the beast, and have the dreaded Hair Algae Work FOR YOU, not Against YOu. |

This is kind of the way I was thinking. Tell me if I am wrong but I would think any algae in my fuge will be taking up nutrients needed for algae to take hold in my DT.
What is recommended for a hair algae cleaning crew?

when i had my HA outbreak, it was primairly because i used TAP..i kno, big no no, and since the prob. has been fixed.
After the switch, I still had the HA, I took out all my LR, and scrubbed it with a CLEAN, BRAND NEW, Toilet Hand Held Brush, Dipped it in old WC water, and Re introduced it. I havent had HA since, and what Little is in my tank is quickly taken by my CUC 29gallon 3 red legs others were killed by my 4 Nassirus 1 astrea 5 were killed by the Nassirius 4 turbos My nassirius are pretty bad, it was fun to watch tho, and the stupid astreas were always flippin themselves over. |
