First Time RC
Hey guys...I have normally been on Reefbuilders.com but i thought i'd give RC a try . I've currently had my tank up for about 1 month and so far it's a 29 Gal BioCube with an added powerhead for about 360 GPH flow.I have 1-36 Watt 10000k Daylight strip and 1-36 Watt Actinic. The Deep Sea Bed is 3-4 inches with Arag Alive sand.I have 1 yellow tail damsel, 5 red leg hermit crabs, 9 blue leg hermit crabs, a decorator crab,3 turbo snails, and an anemone crab. Now I have a plan and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some input. Next week I'm getting a free Bubble tipped anemone from my LFS and then I'm going to go buy a pair of wild perculas. Is the lighting I have right now adequate enough for the anemone? it'd only be about 15 inches from the lights and the light right now visibly reaches about 1/2 inch into the sand bed. thanks guys,

To Reef Central I think it would do better with more light, just my opinion.

I have looked into this for myself because I wanted to add one. While my lighting would be sufficient my tank is too young(about 6 months) for it to prosper. When an anemone is unhappy it will not plant itself. It will roam around stinging everything in sight. I also think your lighting may not be adequate.
If you are new to this as I am, a good lesson to learn is to leave it at the LFS if you are not confident that it will PROSPER, not merely survive in your tank, even if it is free. Welcome to RC

I would think your tank is too young for a BTA...you would have a much better chance of survival if your tank was 6 months old.IMO the lighting is not enough for a BTA

how much money do you have to spend on your light and what other type of corals do you plan to keep? something like this would work well

Not much $...I need something to fit in the BioCube...I mean the guys at the LFS have a cube in the store and have had corals + anemones in there since around december and they have been doing fine...with stock lighting.

the first link is the 3 bulb setup, from what I know yours has 2 bulbs with separate switches your new setup would be 2 10k's on 1 switch and your actinic on the other they have a link for the installation instructions if you want to check it out

I saw that it only says "bulb selection 1" and moonlights R2 or none...does that mean it wont come with any at all?! Or do u just use your standard ones?

I think this adds more moonlights email them to be sure, I would get the 50/50 bulb that is already selected, you have 2 bulbs already and this would give you 3, its half actinic and half white

no SPS corals, Ive seen BTA's in the biocube also, I had one in my 40 gallon and they get huge and can move around and sting everyrthing in there path, it got sucked up into one of my powerheads, and I wont be getting another one because of how much trouble they are. There are some corals that look very similar to anemones. Look at Torch Coral , frogspawn, and a few others out there. Most people that dont know any better ask me if my Torch coral is an anemone.

Lol nice, that stinks that after paying 80+ $$ that its still not enough power to house anemones or high power corals
