How to connect 1/2 tubing to Rio 1100
I got my JBJ Mini Artica Chiller and I also bought the JBJ Chiller tube kit and a Rio 1100 pump. I got everything hooked up but I am nervous about how the 1/2 inch tube is connected to the Rio 1100 outlet. The tube is smaller then the outlet on the pump. There isn't any attachments that came with the pump that allow me to connect this nicely. I can't get a clamp for it since the tubing is a little smaller then the outlet. I was able to stick the tubing in the outlet of the pump but I am concerned that is not the right way and it will pop out. Here is a picture so you can see how the hose is connected to the pump. I ran up to the Home Depot but didn't find any adapter or part that would make this a more secure connection. Is there an adapter or something out there to make this a tighter connection? There is nothing in the directions on this and on the Rio website, the support section isn't opening. Thanks, Joe

That's what you'd need to do. Here's my setup on mine...
![]() You can get the metal clamps you see there at Home Depot or any auto supply shop.

Do not use metal clips inside the water. Just to inform you. The rust will come out from the metals to your aquarium. I always head the tip of the tube and put it in the place than it settles very well. You can use plastic slip clips to fix it then.

Thanks, I will try to locate some plastic slip clips. Too bad they just don't make a piece that comes with the pump that would connect this nicely, the pump comes with basically ever other piece.

The pump comes with a 3/4" threaded pipe adapter. Your LFS can get you a 3/4" female to 1/2" barb fitting. Or you can take a piece of 3/4" tubing and insert the 1/2" tubing into the 3/4" and PVC glue.
FYI metal hose clamps will be OK as they will not get wet. If wet much bigger problem |

Thanks ccoral, that is the info I was looking for! My chiller didn't come with any fittings.
