Raising SA
Is it ok to raise your SA level though Top Off water. I am a littel low at 1.02 and would like to get it up to 1.04 for SPS/LSP I have in there.
Thanks |

If it is specific gravity or total saline...then yes. I raised mine by adding a little salt water every day for about a week until I reach 1.025. Mind you, this was prior to any stock.

Raising the salinity level to a level 1.04? why? that will most likely at some point kill everything....
a level of 1.027 is perfect. As in a true reef system, i do believe. most important, in what way are u measuring salinity?

I re-read after posting...I though the same about the measure...1.04???? is that not off the charts? 1.04 is over 50 specific gravity.

Ok, I have a 120. My SA is at about 30PPM right now. IE 1.022. I would like to get it bumped up to 1.026. What would be the best way to creep it up slowly?

Here's a formula for determing how much additional salt/or additional fresh water you need. You can judge how fast or slow to add.
Sg = 1 + [ ((sg0-1) x initial tank volume) + ((sgN-1) x New water added))/(new water added + initial tank volume))] sg0 is the starting specific gravity sgN is the water change specific gravity **************************************************** for example, if the initial sg is 1.020, and you have 5 gallons and you add 5 gallons of sg = 1.030, you get: sg = 1+ ((1.020 -1)*5 + (1.030-1)*5)/(5 + 5)) sg = 1 + 0.025 = 1.025 I hope this helps. I got it from another reefer on RC.
