acrylic tank and MH

i just bought an acrylic tank and about half of the top is covered. there are 2 round holes, one slim rectangular hole and 2 rectangular large openings... is this what they call bracing? anyway if i place metal hallide retro into this tank, will there be a shadow or lost of light because of the covered top? thanks

i dont know how and havent taken pics yet. but it is a brace. it is molded with the tank itself. there are seperated pieces of acrylic to cover the holes along the brace. i've read that acrylic refracts the light the same as water, so this should not be a problem right?
