Talking In-wall 225 build with pics!

This is my "new" tank build thread. It will detail my current progress and what I plan in the future. I purchased this setup from a local reefer last fall. I began setting it up as a peninsula style tank but soon ran out of free time to devote to the tank. When this happened I really though I was going to have to give up this hobby for quite some time. However the reef gods shined upon me and I was rewarded with a new job and a lot more free time. When I initially set the tank I was not happy with the limited amount of space for the equipment. I had it plumbed to a closet under my stairs and it really limited the functionality of the “tank room”. This time around I decided that I had to have a “functional” tank room. Thus the original peninsula tank was to become a two side viewable in-wall tank. Here is a run down of all the equipment that I originally purchased.

1. 60x36x24 Custom Acrylic tank. That is 225 gallons (New) Peninsula Style
2. 1- Ocean Motions 4 way
3. 1- Ocean Motions Super Squirt
4. 1- Sequence Dart external pump
5. 2- Dolphin 1200 internal pumps
8. 1- 100 Gallon Rubbermaid Stock Tank
9. 3- Aquamedic 250 watt DE Pendants
10. 1- MRC 3 Protien Skimmer/with Iwaki MD 70 RLT
12. 1- MRC Calcium Reactor with CO2 recir mod
13. 1- Tunze Turbelle Stream 6080
14. 1- Tunze Wavebox with Controller
15. 1- 2x4 and 2x6 Stand
16. 1- Used 75 gal Oceanic Reef ready aquarium
17. About 60 lb's of live rock
18. About 400 lb's or Dry Very large Base rock. Very nice pieces
21. 2- 250 watt retrofit halide kits/ with reflectors
22. 1- Lamotte Calcium Test kit Slightly
23. 1- Lamotte Alk Test kit Slightly
24. 1- Mag 12 Pump with new impeller
26. 1-Pinpoint Temp sensor and remote lead
27. 1-Milwakee PH monitor
28. 1- Tunze Osmulator.

Now this equipment along with everything I have acquired over the years was plenty to get the tank running. However I had decided to sell everything last winter so some was gone now. This is what I was left with.

Ok as you can see some of the important parts where sold. Mainly the Ca reactor, CL pump/ 4 way, and the wavebox. In spite of this I was still able to get everything started. Now for the main “plan” for the tank. The display tank is 225 gallons with dimensions of 60*36*24. It has an external overflow on the end and is drilled for a closed loop and returns. I designed the tank room to hold all of the equipment and “try” to keep the humidity down and or contained to that room only. Ok enough talk for now on to some pictures.

PICS COMING SOON!!

As you can see the tank room will have a window to help keep the humidity down.

Drywall going up.

Starting to fill with water.

The tank room, I need to get some more detailed pics of this. It has acually changed quite a bit, I added a frag tank and put the skimmer in the tub.

Added some rock, and you can see my way of getting to the whold tank.

Rock added and lights on.

This one amazed me. I had only added dry ( VERY dry) rock at this point. And what appears on the glass.... pods??? I was shocked.

Ok since then I have added some sand, a total of 7 chromis to cycle the tank, and a piece of live rock. The tank finished cycling earlier this week and I added a Yellow Tang and test sps frag today.

More pics....

Window exhaust fan

Pic from today.

Yellow Tang... shy guy he is.

And the sps frag... dont worry the algae was free

They are some sort of limestone. They were VERY large before I broke them up. All the rock you see there came from 3 larger pieces and I have some left over.

They are 3 250w aquamedic pendents. 10k xm on the outside and 15k xm in the middle. I will be adding actinics as well, either the pc's that I have already or I will pick up some T5's.
