what type of cement to use for pvc
which type of cement is recommended for use in reef tanks? i would like to join several slip pvc pieces together.

I just went to the local Home Depot or Lowes and got the purple pvc primer and the clear pvc cement. It just like pvc pipe in your house. Theres normally a chart above the plumbing section at the store that shows which glue and primer to use for which application and size pipe.

Just about any of them will work seeing as how you don't typically see temperature extremes or even high pressure for most reef applications. I would just go with the regular PVC to PVC clear solvent cement. I don't even bother priming for most applications. The only time I use primer is when I'm using rather large diameter PVC and am worried about leaks.

Always use the primer. The glue is useless without it. You are not gluing PVC. You are causing a chemical reaction that actually melts the PVC together.
