Is a 29 gal to small for a scooter Blenny?

From what I've read so far and from personal experience.....I don't think you could keep enough LR in there to sustain a good food base for him (lots of Copepods).

By no means at all am I trying to disagree with you, as I pretty much live by Reef Central, but I was also told that you need a mature tank with tons of pods to sustain a scooter blenny. However, mine eats frozen foods without hesitation (I saw him eat before I purchased him)........Ive had him for about a month now, and he is doing fantastic. My tank is only about 6 weeks old, also. i realize I probably got lucky.......but just thought that I would share my luck........

Not take as a disagreement, Kookerson. I'm fairly new to the hobby too and am learning, so I love to hear opinions and ideas form others. Glad to hear you are having good luck. I always worry about these little Scooter Blenny's since we had a bad experience with one a few months back and put one in our 55 Gal. Fish Only tank. Even after a rescue by a LFS, he didn't make it. It's good that your's is eating the frozen stuff. I just think that I remember reading somewhere that the nutrition they really need to survive for any length of time mainly comes from the pods. I've read some stories of Blenny's that appear to be eating (brine shrimp and mysis)...but they still starve to death over time from not getting what they need.

I still worry about our Scooter. But he was so tiny and scrawny sitting in the tank at Petco...we knew he wouldn't make it there and we felt like we had to give it a shot. Good luck and I hope your's keeps doing so well....they're awesome little guys!

Right on......... I do realize that I got lucky with him eating frozen stuff, but atleast it shows that they are capable of accepting frozen stuff.......even though it is rare. Like I said, I just got lucky........ but it is possible to keep these scoots without pods......... : )

Mine is a fatty and my tank is about 3 1/2 month old. He does it mysis though.
