Silent HOB skimmer? Throwing Remora into bonfire.
Check out a Tunze DOC as well.
Edit. Now that is weird. My post is above the original and shows 7:40. Its 8:38.

The tunze comes with extension ferrals and should work. I put a 9005 doc in the tank and it is silent. Ask over at the Tunze forum how your tank will hold it. w/o a sump the skimmer is in my tank and bigger than I pictured. I'm now in the market for one on my 70.

Silent HOB skimmer? Throwing Remora into bonfire.
BAAH! I'm sick of the noise my protein skimmer makes. It's driving me nuts!
![]() If I use the wet paper towel method to silence the thing it barely skims anything. So, I've decided to get rid of the godless thing for something better and more quiet. What do you guys think about this skimmer http://toofishy.com/product.php?prod...at=772&page=1. I can't find any reviews, but it seems like it wouldn't create the sucking/gurgling noise my remora makes because of the air silencer. I'm really hoping it's the salvation I've been searching the internet all night for. What do you guys think? ![]() |

I was thinking about a tunze DOC, but I have an acrylic tank with no sump, so it's impossible to mount in the aquarium because of the top acrylic edges. Thanks for the advice though, yeah i heard they were really quiet too.

Do you have it mounted in an acrylic tank mr.maroonsalty? It seems impossible to mount a tunze 9005 on a seaclear acrylic aquarium because of the tiny openings on the top of the tank.

I replaced a Remora with a Tunze 9010, running it in-tank. I had read how quiet it is, but I actually think it is louder than the Remora. I was using the paper towel to reduce noise on the Remora. With the skimmer turned off, my tank is otherwise dead silent.
Ask Roger in the Tunze forum about your mounting options. Now on the flip side, I'm getting better than 5x the amount of similar colored skimmate with the Tunze. |

Well, thanks to everybody for their advice. I've decided to go with the Bermuda Aquatics Rogue HOB skimmer and will order one come Monday. When it arrives I'll post a full review with pictures! I'm praying it's as quiet as they claim.

hey polwick, all you have to do is wet a paper towel and stick it in the left chamber of the skimmer to quiet it down. Although it works, it reduces the skimmate production for me.
