Sand question?

is the silica based play sand from HD good for using substrate?

It works fine is that's what you mean. It, in my opinon, doesn't look as good as the white sand sold for saltwater aquariums but if you're on a budget it will do it's job.

I've used it before without a problem and it passed the vinegar test. $3 for a 50lb bag is a good deal if you don't want anything fancy.
