New Nova T-5 Info Wanted

I'd like to change my 24" two bulb PC light on my 20 gallon tank that houses a LTA anemone, to the Nova T-5 fixture below. It is also a 24", two bulb fixture. My PC light has two 65 watt bulbs. Will this T-5 put out more light? The bulbs are described as:

1-24 W 10,000°K
1-24 W 460 nm actinic

Thanks for any help!

With 2 of the Nova T5, you can keep anything you want on you 20.

You would be better off getting one with individual reflectors instead of that single flat one. In spite of what you may have been told, you cannot keep anything you want under a crappy T5. Just because it says T5 doesn't make it good. I have been there and done that, got the junk in the closet.

Pc's are worse yet. lol Look into a good 4 bulb fixture from reefgeek, it will be infinitely better than pc's but a lot will depend on what you want to keep under it. :-)

The tank I'm talking about has been set up for almost 7 years with the same anemone and PC light. It has never had a skimmer. Maybe I shouldn't rock the boat, and stay with what has worked. I was checking the light today, and the sockets are getting pretty corroded, so I thought I might try the two bulb T-5 for a change. I just want to set it right on the tank like the PC has been. I leave the fans unplugged - I hate noise. A 4 bulb T-5 would probably be too hot.

Pc's get much hotter than t5's and you would also gain a lot of light but I do see your point. Pc's lose out to horrible reflectors and lots of heat. T5's would be more efficient and 2-24 watt t5's with individual reflectors would be close to equal to 2-65 watt pc's for light intensity.

I do agree with not rocking the boat though. Keeping an anemone alive in a small tank that long is an achievement.

for a little bit more money why dont you get the 4 bulb nova extreme they sell? its got twice the light as the one you linked plus its got some neat night led's and fans. its not the best fixture but its still cheap and will serve your purpose and is much better then the 2 bulb one. plus they are on sale now.

A 4 bulb nova extreme has only one reflector, two of the 2 bulb nova have two separate reflector.

I said two of 2 bulb nova have two separate reflectors, I did not said they have individual reflector.

Nova Extreme - 4 bulbs, one reflector
2 Nova 2 bulb - 4 bulbs, two reflector

Nova Extreme - 160
Nova 2 bulb - 70 each

Lee me see, less expensive and two reflectors instead of one? I will choose the 2 bulbs nova over the extreme anytime...the only thing I lost is moonlight.

That is nice you two, but it has nothing to do with this thread. lol If you want to discuss the merits of overpriced crappy fixtures start another thread. :-)

If you're going to keep the PC's, you may want to change the bulbs only one at a time depending on how old they are. In general, PC bulbs tend to go way downhill after about 6-8 months.
