chelated copper removal
Hi,
I have a 75 gallon aquarium that I would like to convert to a reef tank. Only problem is that I ran chelated copper once in the system about 5 years ago. Will this be a problem if I want to put inverts in it now? Also, I have an Eheim wet/dry I would like to utilize and am worried about the same issue. I am busy cleaning the heck out of all of it and have tossed all the media and completely replacing it. Any ideas? Mely |

Throw in some Poly Filters. If you have any copper in the system it will pull it out and turn blue. I used copper once in a fowlr tank and about 6 months later I turned it into a reef. I ran some poly filters for a couple of weeks and then started to add coral. There was no problems what so ever. Is the silicone stained blue or is it still clear?

I don't think you will have any problem due to risidual copper. Just make sure to give everything a good scrub before you fill it up and run some carbon on it for a while just to make sure.

Thanks everyone! I am running a polyfilter right now on setup. How long do I leave it in before taking it out to check the color?

a poly filter will only remove copper from the water. any copper that is on/in the liverock and substrate will still be there and will slowly leach back into the water over time.
