chelated copper removal

Hi,

I have a 75 gallon aquarium that I would like to convert to a reef tank. Only problem is that I ran chelated copper once in the system about 5 years ago. Will this be a problem if I want to put inverts in it now? Also, I have an Eheim wet/dry I would like to utilize and am worried about the same issue. I am busy cleaning the heck out of all of it and have tossed all the media and completely replacing it. Any ideas?

Mely

Throw in some Poly Filters. If you have any copper in the system it will pull it out and turn blue. I used copper once in a fowlr tank and about 6 months later I turned it into a reef. I ran some poly filters for a couple of weeks and then started to add coral. There was no problems what so ever. Is the silicone stained blue or is it still clear?

I don't think you will have any problem due to risidual copper. Just make sure to give everything a good scrub before you fill it up and run some carbon on it for a while just to make sure.

Thanks everyone! I am running a polyfilter right now on setup. How long do I leave it in before taking it out to check the color?

a poly filter will only remove copper from the water. any copper that is on/in the liverock and substrate will still be there and will slowly leach back into the water over time.

please read this link http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...ghlight=copper
