Question silica sand?

Can I use just plain old playground sand from Home Depot for a 3-4" bed? Or do I have to shell out the $$$ for aragonite or live sand. Thanx for the input!

I got 200lbs of Kolorscape in my 120gal. RR. Been up any running for 4 months without any breakouts. My livestock was transfered from my smaller tank so there was'nt a really long cycle period. Seems to be OK so far.

sweet. I already have about a 1.5" bed of aragonite or marine sand, and I wanted to make it deeper to support some more worms and other critters. I just didn't want to pay 20.00 for a 15 lb bag.

just used it, it works fine! what i did was...

just run a garden hose in the bottom of a 5gal bucket till all you see is clear water when the sand settles after about a min..

what els works is just put it in make sure it is somewhat cleaned.

and stick a hose in a big trash bag ontop of the sand in your tank and just let the tank fill up and it will not stir the sand around! it works great
