Try asking here: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewfo...426605df540972 there's also a cichlid specific forum at http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/

Reef Central is dedicated to saltwater, and while I'm sure there are people here who've bread cichlids, you'll probably find more information on a board that's more focused on fresh water fish.

yea almost all of here on us have FW at on point or another but our specilty here on RC is saltwater. Although we would love to help you we wouldnt want to tell you somthing wrong and cause harm to your animals

I also have a FW tank with a oscar a jack demsey a eletric blue a red tail bard and a pacu (yes its a big tank) over the years and a bunch of research out of all the childs oscars are probaly the easiest to breed. Im not sure on the succes of a eletric blue though

To Reef Central

I don't know a whole lot about freshwater as I pretty much started with saltwater fish. I did keep cichlids before and they were a pain in the butt and they just all chased each other around. I'm just here to give you the welcome.

cichlid breeding

As stated above, your not likely to find alot of info on cichlids here, but as it happens I am a HUGE cichlid fan and have kept and bred dozens of species in my 180 and 300gal cichlid tanks. Cichlids are an amazing speices to breed as the process is very interesting. b/c many if not most cichlids are mouth brooders. Once you have an sufficient male female ration, for electrics maybe 1m 3f, the female will produce the eggs as the perform a sort of mating danceas she lays the eggs the male will fertilize them and then she will pick them back up and store them in her mouth where she will continually turn and tumble them for a period of around 3-4 weeks when she will begin slowly releasing them in numbers from 20-40 although unless you remove her to a seperate tank the fry will become a snack. Hope that helps, also you may want to check out cichlidforum.com
