180 build
Well this is a work in the progress to say the least! I originally was going to do a smaller tank with the sump located in the basement but after finishing in the basement I noticed that bugs were still getting in there somehow.
Then I decided to just go big enough to house all equipment and everything else in the built in wall enclosure that is planned for the 180. Here are some of the pics of the progress so far. |

OK think i got it now.
This is where the 55 used to be. I had to remove about half of the water then scoot it across the floor little by little at a time. |

Does anyone think that the stand needs a center support. The top beam that the tank is sitting on is a 2x8 which is resting on builtup 2x6 on each corner?

I dont think so. Ive seen alot of homemade stands, and 2x8s should be plenty. Even if it did bow, which it wont, glass tanks only really need support at the ends.

i would put a flat sheet of ply under the stand. just to stop any real chance of leaving an indentation of the stand in the wood floor.

Needless to say I did a search about removing scratches from glass tanks and saw the horrible news. Called the fs and talked to them and they agreed that remioving the scratch would be very difficult at best. So, Now have to take the tank back to fs that is 1.5 hours away next thursday for an exchange. Oh could be worse I guess. |

I know what the damsel is. What species is the brain? I put it middle of tank with moderate current. Lights are 150 de about 7 months old.
It did eat some shrimp and squid last night, and today it seems to be larger in size. It looks like Lobophyllia to me but i dont know. this is my first brain. |

So does it supossed to stay closed around the center unlike the pics i just saw at live aquaria. It only opens to where the center is visable at night.

Few more pics of the progress. Got my ro/di unit installed and ran to the basement. Have two large rocks curing. I cant seem to figure out a way to make the pics small enough to post them so some look funny.
Got my lights in but only opened them for long enough to ensure they werent broken. heres one of the two rocks that are curing here are the basement steps before I tried to help them out. steps after makeover |

Looks good I'm interested in how you are going to finish the stand off.

The stand will just be for support. Am building a wall around it. I have kind of started. I routed all the wood that will be next to the black platic on the tank. I didnt want to look at it even when up close.
