to test or not to test

I was told the other day not to tesst water in the tank.
This I admit was a shock to me, I would think that would be a big no no not to test.
Just wanted to get sme other thoughts, and if it is indeed wrong to test then why?

I test my water every week. I will do it more often if something looks wrong or the livestock is acting weird

There's nothing wrong with knowing what's going on with the water in your tank. I say test as much as you want

I've heard some people say not to test in the first couple of weeks of cycling, but that's really only to try to prevent the psychological "empty tank" syndrome and encourage patience. There's still nothing wrong with testing daily, if you want to, or if it helps you understand the cycle better.

Obviously, taking 5 or 10ml out of the tank isn't going to affect your tank at all.

who told you not to test your water? how would you know when your change water was suitable? how would you know if your tank had cycled? how would you justify to the wife all the hours you spend in the tank room?
