How long has your tank been setup ?

Does the "smoke" have a green tint to it ?

To Reef Central

Also, is anything being dosed into the tank, like a buffer or calcium?

If any animals are showing signs of trouble, some 20-25% water changes would be a good idea. I am not recommending that to try to clear up the water, though.

First things that come to mind without knowing much about your tank is macroalgae (caulerpa) going through its crazy reproductive phase that will cloud up the water, an overdose of kalk or alk supplements, or just plain dirty water that hasn't been changed in a while or ammonia spike.

Do you do regular water changes? Have any macroalgae growing in your tank? Or add any new sand that would cloud the water?

Also, when I had a powerhead go bad few years back, it clouded the water a bit and gave it a bad, electrical smell. Oh, and killed almost everything in my tank.
