150w ballast on 175w bulb HQI MH
I was moving things around, looked at my ballast and noticed it has 150w or 175w. Here's a pic
Does this mean I could use my 150w setup as a 175w setup instead? I know its not a huge gain but was wondering. I don't know much about these things. I got my setup from here http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/ultrareef/ Its a little different, I think I have 65w PC. Anyways will it work? thanks Dave |

There are several 175 watt ballasts that are supposed to be suitable for 150 watt and 175 watt bulbs. I used an ARO 175 on a 150 watt DE. It is probably a 175watt that will also run 150, not the other way around. Just keep in mind that if you are using a 150 watt double ended bulb now and you want to switch to 175 watt, the bulbs are single ended screw base not double ended.

IMHO it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider switching your 150w HQI for the 175 Iwasaki 15kk bulb, unless you are just attached to the color of your 150w HQI.

I love the color now, but will be changing the bulb now. The stock bulbs are still in there, its a reef glow 15k. I just read that on the back and thought it was interesting that I could switch to a 175k bulb. thanks for the info guys
