tunze wavebox mod.

I just got a wave box. I want to cut out this amount in the red section. Do you think this is wise?

I feel the power head nozzle is too low in the my 120.

I have been running a wavebox for three years which was on a 125 then the last 18 months on a 180. I believe my 180 is the same depth & width of your 120 minus the extra 2 foot length. IMO I would not do it. My 180 gets plenty of water movement. The whole box is what makes the wave by filling then pushing the water back out and if you did shorten it I believe it would reduce the wave.

it would reduce the amount of water the unit pushes at one cycle. also i would think your warranty would be void

it does not fill completely tell you the truth.

I just don't like some of my corals getting blasted head on 4 inches away from the wave box.

i think as long as there is enough water to fill the unit and the pump to run with out drawing air. I think I can cut like 2 inches out of it.

post pic of your tank set up.

You can move the wavebox to the back corner of your tank. It does need a clear shot to the other side of the tank.

I would not do this mod. It needs all that extra space for my 90 gal tank. It will be the same as your 120 gal since we both have 4' tanks.

yea. its just really blasting my rocks/corals, I really wish I could either A. move my rocks (not happening), B. move my corals (could and might happen). C. cut out two inches.

How could you bring yourself to cut up a new wavebox? I could never spend that kind of money and hack it apart when it arrived.

i know how you feel.

I just rearranged all of my LR today. I brought some tonga branch LR to place along the back of my tank so the wavebox would have a clear shot across the tank. It was a lot of work but well worth it. I went from having a 1/4-1/2 inch to 1-1.5 inch wave.

Once you have this thing set up right, it really moves a ton of water!!

Its an engineer's brain, they want things to be better or work better in that situation or sometimes just work!!
