Best phosphate reactor?
Thoughts on phosphate reactors, what the best media to use, and can you still have macro in a fuge if you run a phosphate reactor. Also can you use carbon in them as well. thanks

I use two reactors both in a 3 baffle refugium/propigation 38g .The first and last both have razor and grape calerpa in them middle is prop. The last baffle has both two little fishes one has rowa-phos the other has silicarbon in it (german product). I thought the same thing, It dosen't seem right but the calerpa still needs harvesting just dosent grow as fast as the first baffle. It is only recent that I moved the grape in there and I have been expecting a calerpa crash but nothing yet. Good question I hope someone else has some input.

Most people use the Three Little Fishes reactor. As for which media to use, I have read that it doesn't make that much difference. And yes you can add carbon to the reactor as well. There is a very interesting thread in the reef discussion forum concerning the usefulness of GFO (granular ferric oxide).

I think it just matters how big your tank is. The Two Little Fishes and Kent ones will do just fine for almost any tank, but there is another kind that is larger for the really big tanks with big bioloads out there. I like to use Warner Marine PHOSaR because the GFO is in pellets so its harder to clog the filter.

I use the TLF's reactor reasonably priced and works well.

I use the Deltec 509, do not know if it is the best but works well, I fill it half with Rowaphos and half with carbon

I have been using the PhosBan 150 from TLF with PhosGaurd media. This is a pellet and does not seem to collect in the sponges, as mentioned above. So far, so good.
