water storage and refugium ?'s

Hi all,

Couple questions that I have not found answers to while reading the forums, so forgive me if this is a rehash to you old-timers.

1. In preparing to cycle rock and also to have water on hand for changes, how long can salt water be stored and remain viable. I have a 32 gallon brute in which to mix and keep water. My ro/di is a 35 gpd, so I need to think ahead. I have plain ro/di stored in a couple 5 gallon bottles for top-off.

2. Has anyone had experience with the "Aquatic Design Habitats" refugiums? Been looking at them and wondered as to quality and functionality. Basically a skimmer section with a refugium section and a return section.

Thanks in advance for any input. You have all been invaluable as I venture into this hobby.

Ray

1. Artificial saltwater will last indefinitely if kept covered and any evaporation is replaced reasonably quickly. I'd aerate it before use, if possible.

2. Never heard of that product.

I can answer question 1---Forever. As long as the water is kept covered then is will be fine. You do want to check salinity before using it as some evaporation is inevitable.

I don't know about that fuge.

Darn Jon-we actually agreed on something.

Thanks for quick reply. Just trying to decide whether I want to buy one or risk building one with my limited skills.

Dang. I just dumped 5G of SW that had been in a sealed jug for a week. Thought it was bad. :-(

Need to read more!
