MH with Glass Canopy

I would like to upgrade my PC lighting to MH. Can I keep my glass canopies if I get a fan for the sump? I have a 120. Thanks.

Yes, I don't see why not except for heat issues which can be solved by a fan over the sump. Just make sure to clean them regularly.

Do you have a enclosed canopy or is this a pendent type deal? If you have a canopy I don't see the point of having the glass lids. They are bad news IMO unless you have a serious jumper or escape artist.

I'm running MH over a glass lid with no probs but you should clean them often for best effect. You'll also want to run a fan over the sump too.

I don't have a canopy. I was thinking of those plug in fixture units. I have some firefish that could jump out and I like the security of the fixture not falling in just in case. Thanks everyone!

Someone on another thread recommended a screen cover to alleviate the heat issues and keep the fish in the tank.

Eliminate the "just in case" thought by making certain the light fixture is very secure. I think its best to leave the top open for gas exchange and heat. You are creating a terrarium affect by placing mh over the glass top. The glass will have evaporation and salt build up blocking the full affect of the light from reaching into the tank.
