Dust til Dawn 2

This is the light cycle I will be using in my reef.

Actinic 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m.
Full Spectrum Fluorescents 2:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.

Is this cycle ok?
I know its not the natural cycle...but It would be more convinient for my enjoyment (being a little selfish here )

What about the L.E.D. lights?
Where do they fit in this cycle... I dont understand how long should I simulate the moon with the LED's...
8hrs? The rest of the "night cycle"?

Your informed input is appreciated.

Eric.

IMO a bit long of a light cycle. as far as when the lights are on and off, there are quite a few people that run opposite to day and night. Don't think it makes that huge of a difference. The moon lights usually go on when the lights are off, and off visa versa.

i asked that question in another thread and was told you can leave your LED's on 24 hours, as they don't conusme much energy at all, and you don't have to worry about using another timer for them. Just leave them on all the time. This was a suggestion I heard, but I am sure there are other schools of thought on this.

led's depends on who you ask I don't think they harm anything but if they really help is debatable. IMO would shoot for a total light cycle of 8-11 hours. what type of lights are you running? sounds like maybe t-5s or power compacts?

that is pretty much true during the main photo period they are most likely washed out and don't make an impact. and it is correct they don't use much power and will last "forever".

i leave my led's running all night and shut them down in the morning, the inverts seem to love it and it's nice to see things at night running around.

I agree that the cycle seems a little long, but you won't hurt anything with leaving the LED's on 24/7

Thanks for the replies on the LED's. I have a cheap timer. I might put them in a timerso that the inverts dance under the moonlight (or fight and eat each other) and do whatever it is that makes them happy.

About the Day light cycle. Is it too long? Should I change my schedule?

BTW my lights are the (JEBO, *coughs* "El Cheapo", PC's).
I plan on building a very big tank in about a year or so. So I am starting this 29gal nano and I hope that my creatures dont hold any karmic grudges against me for my mistakes due to aquaria inexperience.

I also hope that I dont get a lot of "WIFEHAG" from my switch into marine tanks.

(Wifehag/husbandhag = A disease similar to velvet caused by your nagging partner having “issues” and "conflicting emotions" towards you and your relationship with your hobby.)
