whats your opinion.

i am running 2-250 and 2 110 watt vho.

thats what... 720 watts

was curius if running just halides would be better thinking of just doing 2 400s and eliminating vhos in general..?

im understanding that vhos are basically for asthetics. and if that would be the case i think im happy with my 2x250s on with the xm 20ks. not really seeing much difference when i turn my actinics on while running my 20ks

with just the 20kk you'll get fair growth and they'll keep fairly good color for the most part. you'll keep excellent color in the blues and greens but not so much so in reds and yellows. for the best of both worlds i found that for myself with 10kk MH and the VHO Actinic.

IMO 250w 20k is too weak for any good growth. If you want growth and color, 400w 20k is the only way to go. There is a reason most of the big coral farmers use them. Heck some (reefer madness) use 1000w 20k. I dont care how much actinic you add to 10ks, they just dont show off the colors of corals like a 20k bulb can.

I run 2x250 14K Phoenix MH bulbs with 2x110 VHO. My VHO ballast gave out at the beginning of July and I haven't replaced it yet. The tank is doing fine so there's no rush. Have you tried or seen a tank with the Phoenix 14K bulbs? I saw 400 watt XMs last week on a 125 and the tank didn't look as nice IMO.

I have a 10k 400watt se on an icecap ballast with 150watts of vho actinics. I will say yes it is bright bu the color stinks. I will be going with a 20k bulb soon either a XM or Helios unless i can find a aquaconnect

yeah i probably would not do xm 10k especially on my magnetic ballast probably look like urine.

i have set my vhos to come on later than usual. well today i was looking at how my corals fluorece under just the halides. and was wondering if i was wasting energy. i though vhos actinics didnt really have any growth as far as par.

i dont know though. they cam on and i like the look of both though now that i look. at it.

rrr.. i hate this hobby sometime why cant i just be content. LOL

i know leave it alone and just enjoy it right
