Question on different types of Caribsea sand.
I just bought (2) 30# bags of Caribsea sugar sand for my 90g. I was hoping to just cover the bottom about 1'' deep. On further inspection it appears that the sand will be too fine. I don't have crazy flow in my tank (about 1500GPH). Do you think that'll blow around? Is there a bit courser sand that might not move around as much?

after the sand has colonized with bacteria you'll find it sticks down pretty good. you may have to adjust some flow to keep it from pilling up dunes but otherwise it shouldn't be a problem unless it's got a blast straight at the sandbed.

If you don't put too much flow in the tank the sand should remain stationary. I have the same sand and a lot of flow in my 90 and I have to say If I could do it over again I would use the reef grade sand. It's a little bit more coarse so It won't shift so easily.

buy another bag of coarser sand and mix it in. i bought the real fine stuff like you, you should be fine but a little bigger sand grain should really help you out. i have trouble keeping it clean though. any suggestions.

That's a good idea, bobby. i might mix the two grades... anybody using this sand? Caribsea seaflor special grade reef sand. How is the grain size? Is it as white as the sugar sand?

I have the CaribSea Aragamax Oolitic Select Reef Sand mixed with the Seaflor Special Grade sand (not the larger grain one with the shells like the link above) in my tank. I don't have any problems with it blowing around but I do have to position my powerheads so they don't make dunes from the current off the glass. But I imagine that's the same with any substrate.
