Tap water
Hi guys,
The other day I was topping up my reef tank, without thinking I used water from the tap. My question is would this kill my corals and inverts as the pipe which the water comes from is copper. What should I do? Thanks in advance! |

If you are really concerned your LFS (probably) has products that will take copper out of the water.

Don't worry. I've been using tapwater for the past two years and all my inhabitants are still alive.

I dont recommend it unless it goes throught an ro unit. Make sure you at least treat the water. Heard you can get hair algy this way

I took some sps from a guy who used tap water a few times on his tank, six months later the acros are peeling the skin off and leaving a nice bright green skelaton. I figure the phosphate in his tap water is what caused this. I dont suggest using tap at all.

There is a high risk with using tap water in a reef system. Most tap has high phosphates and nitrates, tds... Test It.
