ID Please black/white striped tenticles.

I noticed something with black and white tenticles poking out of a tiny hole. The tenticles (if thats what they are maybe worms?) were a little thicker than strands of hair. Please take a look and maybe someone can ID it:

Thanks!!! That leads to another question of course...If it has to scavenge shouldn't it be leaving that hole rather than hiding there all day? Maybe it's stuck in that small hole and can't get out? Shall I free it? Or can it manage on its own? Possibly having some kind of food source in its home since I believe its a dead piece of coral.

No worries, it's not stuck. These types of stars feed in the exact way you are observing, by extending their arms out of the crevice to catch suspended particles in the water column. at one stage of my reef I had litterally hundreds, but I only see a few now, their population vary over time.

Check your tank at night. My guess is that if you see one starfish in the day, you'll see many more at night.

They are commonly called "Mini Brittle Stars", and are from the order Ophiurida

Ah, I see how it is. I'm stuck meandering the void while you get to live it up with BrianD in Hawaii
