Peacock Mantis Tank Size???
I have a 5 gallon tank that I would like to setup a mantis tank with and I have read mixed reviews on how big the tank needs to be??? It is acrylic so it will not break. If fed regulary, and it seems to burrow and stay put why wouldn't a 5 gallon be sufficient, considering the water to be "perfect". I am wanting to keep the "big" peacock mantis by the way...

Well how long is the tank? Peacocks can get over 7 inches long... Ask this question in the Mantis forum and see your replies.

A full grown peacock should be in no less than 25 gallons. They need to roam, and because of their size and tendency to bury and hide food it can be very hard to keep water quality good. In that tank a large pecock would most liekly die of a failed molt. Mantises you can keep in a 5 gallon no problem: N. wennerae: common florida mantis, G. smithii: not as common, but good personality, and most haptosquillids. I suggest heading over to the mantis shrimp foum and checking out Roy's list (Its a sticky there)
