I keep 2 and switch them once a week. I put them in the washer inside out with a little bleach and extra rinse cycle. I air dry them.

Every two to three days for me -- I use the high pressure sprayer thingy on my kitchen faucet first and rinse them very well inside and out (the same way I would clean an activated carbon filter pad in a FW tank) then turn them inside out and place them in the dishwasher (no detergent..) then back into the tank they go.
I've read bleach mentioned a few times -- It's really not necessary, but I'm starting to think (after a mere month of doing SW) that it may be a very good idea as after a short while, even with regular cleaning, it's difficult to guage how dirty your sock is by just looking at it which may come in handy I suppose...

I have 5 that I rotate in and out each week. I change the sock when I do the water change. I rinse each out after use and then wait until I have 4 and then I wash them in the washer with some bleach. I use the rinse twice feature on the machine and then I let them air dry.
Works well for me. Regards, Pat

i would also bleach them and put them through an extra rinse cycle and let them sit in the sun for 24 hours
and for those of you who are worried about the bleach eventhough you left them in the sun throw them in a bucket with some water and dechlorinator but this ^ is really not needed because bleach(chlorine) "evaporates" thats why we have to buy those chlorine tablets for our pools...and why we can leave a bottle out of tap water out for a day and use it in our tanks safely(not that i reccomend this on a regular basis) |
