RO back flush question?

I have an RO unit that is 100gpd. It has a 600 flow restrictor on the very end of the bad water exit.

On the restrictor is a black type **** valve. Wide open I get great flow out of the bad water end and in my good RO fill barrel. When I close it the flow cuts down on both outputs.

How does this backflush work? So with that stated, when its in line with the flow restrictor it flows both ends nice, when its closed against the restrictor it cuts it down to a minimum?

I just want to me sure I am running this correctly.

THanks for the tips and info!
