Can't Cure Ick - 911 Need some suggestion before it's too late.
I bought a Butterfly Banner Fish and it has developed 2mm white balls on all of its fins. I have been running coppersafe for 2 week and that did not help. I tried 2 fresh water dips no luck and now I have been trying Mardel Maricide with no luck. Can some one help me. The fish look strong still but I know that at anytime it could turn for the worst so I need to ack quickly. I may be wrong on the Ick but because the ball started out small like little pimps on the fins but they have grown to about 2mm. Please help!

you need to put that fish and any other you have in a Quarantine Tank for 6 wks. This tank needs to be bare and run with hyposalinity. The display needs to be fallow or empty for that same 6 wks that is the life cycle of ich. Do a search on hypo and ich. From what I have read hypo is the only real cure. Copper is good also but from what I have read it is a bit harder on fish.

None of the medications for marine ich seem useful except for copper products, which shouldn't be used in a display tank. I'd go with a hospital tank and hyposalinity.

PLEASE DONT USE GREAT STUFF (THE YELLOW STUFF) IN YOUR TANK........USE POND FOAM (THE BLACK STUFF).. I BEG YOU! Great stuff====$5 a can 24-48 hour cure Epoxy to cover it====little as $5 for small projects or up to $100+ for larger projects and another 24-48 hour cure I hope you covered it well cuz if you didnt it will start to break down in a few months sand is another added cost to cover up the yellow. Pond foams====$9-$15 a can 24-48 hour cure DONE! You can cover it with sand if you want to (YOU DONT HAVE TO) though but thats added cost again Current Tank Info: 75 gal under way |

A picture would be nice. It may be viral, and if it is, can only be cured with good diet and excellent water quality. If it is viral, then copper which you are using, as well as hypo won't do anything.

Oh...while some have claimed success with cleaner shrimp and kich ich products, I wouldn't rust them. They are not failsafe options and until I see a scientific paper showing some evidence that they work, I don't think that they do.

I agree that this might be lymphocystis. Interesting thought.
