I have the RK2 and like its simplicity, but I wish now I would have got a more expandable unit. My tank is pretty large, and I enjoy gadgets.
For an average tank I think an ACjr is probably the best $ spent. Good place to compare the units http://www.aquariumcontrollers.com/ |

Both the RK2 and the AC Jr are excellent units for what they are. Unfortunately they are not very expandable beyond what the package comes with. If you ever plan on controlling more than one tank you will have to purchase another one to run each tank. Obviously this starts to become cost prohibitive. If you want more features with expandability you may want to look at the AC III.

I decided on mine after reading up on this site.....somewhere there is a great link to a controller comparison chart. Sorry I'm not more help....

You will never want a tank without one again. I say if your gonna go for it, for for a higher model that is expandable. More controllable outlets etc... AC jr is nice but limited. I always see them for sale because someone is always upgrading.

Also I've seen too many posts on how to hack the AC jr to run on a home network. People try hacked routers, adapters etc. For not much more than trying all the hacks you could get a model with it built in.
Here's a neptune comparison. http://www.neptunesys.com/comparison.htm |
