Can snails eat off coral?

May sound like a stupid question. I'm trying to rescue a Branching Porites coral from a friend and it has some small spots of diatom and red cyano on it. Can I place an astrea on it, or is the coral aggresive enough to sting something like this?

I've seen mine on the same rocks, and use their little trunk thing to clean right up next to the coral, but I've never seen them get on one.

Hermit's would possibly do it, I see them walking around on top of coral's on occasion, but I'm not so sure they would eat that algae.

Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.
