is my brain coral screwed ??

heres a pic of the coral. it appears to have a rather large hole on the left end.. ? any ideas as to why this is . the water params seem fine. and the temp is gd. its under a 55wt t5 daylight plus and a 34wt t8 triplus . ( sorry about the bad quality )

I'd say yes, it appears that it has been for some time. There is little to no "flesh" left on the skeleton and looks like it has lost all of the zooxanthellae-I would suggest that you take it out of the tank as it is not helping the water quality and will only wind up being taken over by the algae that appears to already begun. darn it . i think its cos of the water treatment i was using ( that i bought at the same time as the corals to combat red -hair algae ) and then i found out on here it was deadly to corals. stoopid bloody fish shop :@ they said to use it . cheers guys

yeh it looks that way. just kinda devastating spending £100 on ur 1st two corals too have the 1st die in under a week and the 2nd in a month ah well. at least all the live-stock is happy. lol. im gna get a load more live rock tmoz and re-scape my tank i think. then im going to leave the tank for a few months b4 i add any corals. thanx for the help guys

Adding more live rock will only contribute to future algae outbreaks as you could cause another cycle with the die off. If you add more rock cure it separately and then add to your system.

thats terrible. :P not funny atal. haha. im a bit stressed with my tank at the mo. duno weather to buy anymore stuff or not . i want a much bigger tank. but i dnt have the time to sort one out .

Hang in there new_world_disor, the best part if this hobby is the fruits of our well planned systems. Patience has it's bountiful rewards and remember......nothing good happens overnite, but as you have found out, bad things can. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here on RC because a majority of the reefers here have been where you are at now (including myself) and will be more than willing to pass on our expirience to help you through the bad times. I think I would be doing a little reading before buying any more livestock and avoiding that shop in the future.

I agree, I could be wrong, but it sound's that they where trying to make an imedate sale, and not looking at long term relation's with the custemer. Just my thought's(been there and seen it first hand myself)
