Yellow tang vs copperband butterfly

Hi.

I just got a copperband butterfly today, my yellow tang which has been very peaceful to other fish in the tank, althhough he attacks me if i dare to stick my hand in the tank , any way he attacks the copperband alot and does not leave him alone, is he just establishing dominance or will he hurt him or even kill him?

Tangs can be territorial if not introduced last to a tank in my experience. I introduced a wrasse after my tang (chevron) and the tang picked on it for a few weeks. After a bit of time though, they seemed to get along. Give it a bit of time, unless one or the other shows signs of serious distress.

you need to move some rock around in the tank. This will disturb the territory that the tang has claimed as his own. This will help the situation. Like grundig said, tangs are very territorial and he will kill the copperband if you let him.

coppernads are difficult enough to keep alive to have something kicking his @$$ all day!

Mine did the same thing. It'll calm down. I hope you have better luck than I have had with copperbands though...
