Durso leaking?

When I turn off the return pump my tank never stops draining to the sump. It barely keeps running but over time it will cause an overflow of the sump. I think it must be the standpipe leaking at either the bulkhead or where the 2 pipes connect and will move up and down for adjustment. I think its where the pipes slide together. If I move it up it will stop leaking so I'm thinking its algae or coraline buildup between the 2 breaking the seal. So here's the real question. How do I fix it? Can I just pull the whole thing out or will it overflow my sump? (If I leave the return pump running) The standpipe just pushes on the bulkhead If I remember right.

I'd probably remove the water from your sump before you pull it.
Then add back what ever you need to get it running if you're going to leave it run for a little while you make repairs.

I'm just guessing but my overflow looks like it has at least 5 gallons if not more. I don't remember how many buckets I put in there to do my leak test.

The new Megaflows have middle and lower inlets too so the entire tank volume would be trying to get in. I guess I'm hoping my return pump can pump out as fast as it comes in.. If the power were to fail I would obviously be screwed or if I were to break the pipe trying to remove it...

The entire tank wont drain, only your overflow box will drain even with the megaflow. It picks up from the middle and bottom but there is another wall behind what you see in the front of the tank which will keep it sealed. You have to run your sump with enough room to hold the volume of water above the overflow and whatever is held in the overflow box which is a few gallons. The megaflow standpipe does leak slowly as you can see.
