when i first started my tank after cycle and everything was down to 0 (amm, trite/trates) i put in chaeto in my fuge. i provided it w/ a light and it still grew. one thing is i dont have alot of flow in there so theres no loose pieces. light should help it grow even w/o nitrates or phosphate

Chaeto does not need alot of light to grow. It also does not need very much nutrients either. One thing I have noticed is that Mag is actually a culprit to Chaeto not growing well. It needs to be as close to sea level as possible and not too high or low. This is just my opinion and experience. Make sure it is in a slow flow area that alows for growth and decent light and you should have success.
