Coral Acclimation

Hi,
Because I am having this issue with one of the RC seller. I bought an Acan from him, about 4-5 polyps. When I opened the bag the water in there was cloudy and smell. The Acan looked brown instead of orange color it suppose to. The next morning, it died. I told him about it and he asked me did I acclimate it. I said yes. I did acclimate it with the drip method for an hour. And I was shock, that he said I should not acclimated it and that I just put it straight into the main tank. So now he's blamming me for killing the acan because I acclimated it. Although, he told me that he will refund the next day but I still have not received any. I would give him credit for giving a milli frag for free but it too bleached the next day. So, I would like to know some opinion, before I give him feedback. Do you guys acclimate? If no then why?

I did receive another shipment from a different seller the same day. They were ricordia and zoos. They are doing well right now. And I too did acclimate them for an hour.

Some people don't acclimate sps because they hold them out of water for a minute until it slimes then they add to the display. The slime allows it to acclimate on its own. I always acclimate regardless of the situation. For corals I temp acclimate for 20-30 mins. then depending how close the salinity the two water sources are determine how long to acclimate from there. HTH
Best of luck with your situation.

honestly i do not acclimate my corals other than floating the bag for about 5-10mins. people will argue with this for days, is acclimating the best way, maybe. is it a must do? no. i have a frag tank and when i come home from a swap, or the LFS i just float the bags until i get everything put away, then in the tank they go. most the time when me and some of the guys from my group go to a swap a couple of us have some freshly made SW in a jug to put new corals in. i am not saying it is the best way or the right way it just my way . i will add that some soft corals are more sensitive to change. things like Xenia, and more fleshy soft corals may be a little touchy not acclimating them. but i have not lost a coral from it.

Thank y'all. I think I will remind him about the refund he mentioned. And if I don't get it the next day. I will leave him a feedback. Is that fair enough?
